This model features simpler specifications, such as a solid mahogany flat-top body inheriting the Les Paul shape, three-button tuners, and P-90 pickups, but it is still beloved by many musicians, including Bob Marley, Jimi Hendrix, Ron Wood, Larry Carlton, and Tamio Okuda.
The Les Paul-shaped body is made of solid mahogany, and the neck features a thick, grippy 50s Rounded Medium C profile with a solid mahogany rosewood fingerboard and a set neck with long tenons and glued in hide glue.
The headstock is silkscreened with the "Gibson" logo and "Les Paul Special," just like the standard model. It also features a two-ply truss rod cover and Kluson three-button tuners.
The bound neck features pearloid dot inlays, making for a very simple design. The pickups are two Custom Soapbar P-90s, and the 2Vol/2Tone and 3-way selector controls are CTS pots, Bumblebee replica capacitors, and a Switch Craft Jack. The hardware is nickel. The bridge uses a wraparound bridge/tailpiece.
